Defender adds to Portsmouth's injury woes with early Blackburn exit

There could be yet more bad news on the injury front for Pompey after today’s game against Blackburn Rovers

Defender Conor Shaughnessy has added to Pompey’s injury concerns.

The centre-back was forced off in the 63rd minute of the Blues’ Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The 30-year-old received treatment on the Fratton Park pitch when he initially pulled up but was promptly escorted off and replaced by Regan Poole.

Shaughnessy’s early withdrawal comes on the same day that Brentford loanee Benjy Arthur was forced to sit out the Rovers game with a yet unconfirmed injury.

Rumours claimed the 20-year-old had returned to the Bees, but the defender was spotted at Fratton Park before today’s game.

Shaughnessy has featured six times for Pompey this season and scored in the recent 2-0 win against Cardiff.

However, the Irishman played just 19 times in the league last season because of hamstring and thigh issues.

It’s unclear at this moment what forced him off against Blackburn as Pompey trailed 2-1.

Josh Murphy, Keshi Anderson, Arthur, Conor Ogilivie, Luke Brooke-Smith, Marko Milovanovic, Thomas Waddingham and Mark Kosznovszky were among those to sit out the game against Rovers due to injury.
