'Just get on with it' - Sheff Utd players warned ahead of Portsmouth test at Bramall Lane

Portsmouth travel to Championship rivals Sheffield United on tonight.

Chris Wilder has issued a stern warning to his Sheffield United squad as they look to build on their Steel City derby win against Sheffield Wednesday by seeing off Pompey at Bramall Lane tonight.

The Blades have struggled to find form this season and remain in the Championship relegation zone, despite claiming a memorable win at Hillsborough on Sunday afternoon.

A goal in each half from striker Tyrese Campbell and a late deflected effort from substitute Tom Cannon saw Wilder’s side secure a deserved three points against the Owls and ensure they can move out of the drop zone with another win against the Blues.

There have been some suggestions the Blades could use their derby day triumph to catapult themselves towards an unexpected push for the play-off places in the second tier - something which Blues boss John Mousinho believes remains a possibiity. Although such talk seems fanciful at this point in time given they are currently sitting 13 points adrift of sixth-placed Bristol City.

With that in mind, Blades boss Wilder has moved to cool any talk of a play-off push and insisted his players cannot afford to look beyond their midweek meeting with a Pompey side currently sitting four points above the relegation zone.

Speaking to The Star at his pre-match press conference, Wilder said: ‘I think that you can't look ahead of yourself too much in this profession and especially this league. So, the most important game is the next one.

‘Listen, if we string a run of results together, it gets you up the league. If you string another run of results together, it gets you even higher up the league. So we just want to keep improving.

‘I believe we are working our way through the performance levels, there are things that we need to get better at and to keep doing well.

‘If we don't get that win, recovering and going again and seeing where it takes you. I think there will always be people who will want to speculate and see how you go.

‘If you lose, usually you're going down. If you win, everything's great and you're going up. So a little bit of calmness about it, I suppose, is the best way of going about it. Just getting on with it, and dealing with that next opponent.’

Wilder - Pompey are most committed team in Championship

On the specific challenge that awaits his side when Pompey walk onto the Bramall Lane pitch tonight. Wilder added: ‘There's a lot to be done on Wednesday night against a talented manager, a committed team, a together team – I think possibly the most committed, together team in the division.

‘I've looked at their results, looked at their performances and there might be some negative results in there but they've been in every game and we have to make sure that we bring those qualities that we possess to the game on Wednesday.
