But the assignments don’t get any easier, as John Mousinho’s men travel to the north west to take on another fancied contender at Turf Moor.
The defensive issues are abating but it’s the striker department where the concerns now lie, with Colby Bishop, Mark O’Mahony and Kusini Yengi all sidelined.
So much for Mousinho to ponder against the Clarets - here’s how we think his side will line up.

A fairly impressive return against West Brom, with the hope and challenge for a run of games to follow. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages
6. LB Connor Ogilvie
The challenge is coming from fit-again Jacob Farrell with it an up-and-down season so far for Ogilvie. Was culpable for first goal against West Brom, with it clear the punishment threshold for errors is high at Championship level. Photo: Jason Brown
7. CM Andre Dozzell
Will be interesting to see if Dozzell continues with Abdoulaye Kamara and Freddie Potts pushing for inclusion. That extra experience probably means the midfielder keeps his place. | The News
8. CM Marlon Pack
A strong first half as skipper set the tone for Pompey's pressing against West Brom. Will be looking to maintain that influence for 90 minutes this weekend. Photo: Jason Brown
