Previously unbeaten, the visitors were undone by Minhyeok Yang, who capped a magnificent week by bagging a 23rd-minute winner for John Mousinho’s men.
Pompey had to dig deep defensively for long spells, yet did so magnificently, ensuring Josef Bursik barely had a save to make as they kept Middlesbrough at bay superbly
9. John Swift - 6
(Replaced by Mark Kosznovszky on 58 mins) - Retained his place in the 10 role and again a bit of a mixed bag. Some lovely touches, yet also sloppy moments, which can be hugely frustrating. Photo: Simon Roe
10. Minhyeok Yang - 9 - MOM
(Replaced by Harvey Blair on 78 mins) A player transformed, what a difference a week makes. First Watford and another right-footed half-volley against Middlesbrough, this time from Williams’ excellent cross. Pompey’s biggest threat throughout with his energy and directness. Photo: Steve Bailey
11. Colby Bishop - 7
Given very little protection from the referee, with a huge cheer when finally given a foul on 58 minutes. Nonetheless, another quiet match in an attacking sense, with little scoring opportunity. Needs a goal, needs a confidence boost. Photo: Graham Hunt
