The striker headed home in the 25th minute for the only goal of the game in a 1-0 triumph over Watford at Fratton Park.
The Hornets were reduced to 10 men in the second half, yet Pompey were unable to capitalise, creating a nervy finale – but John Mousinho’s men stood form.
With two matches remaining, Pompey have retained their Championship spot. And here are our player ratings...

Rock solid as ever. Dominated the left flank and combined well with Murphy as usual. Mr Consistent. Photo: Jason Brown
6. Freddie Potts - 8
Absolutely wonderful and finishing the season strongly. One second-half cross from the right should have been headed home by Bishop, but the keeper saved it. Developed impressively over the campaign. Photo: Jason Brown
7. Isaac Hayden - 8
Handed a late-season run in the season and is rewarding Mousinho’s backing. Mobile, physical and has a calmness about him. Photo: Adam Fradgley
8. Matt Ritchie - 8
Pompey in his heart and the heart of Pompey. Denied by a fine double save by Watford’s keeper in the opening four minutes and then at the start of the second half with a lovely left-footed strike. Special moment for him to be skipper when Blues have stayed up. Photo: Jason Brown
