Pompey fans head back to St Mary’s in two weeks time for the latest south-coast derby against Southampton.
2,500 members of the Fratton faithful will head west along the A27 to cheer John Mousinho’s side on - and in hope that another famous away day can be recorded against their arch rivals.
In fairness, not many surviving Blues supporters can say they’ve experienced the thrill of a win behind enemy lines.
Indeed, the last time it happened was in 2010 when Avram Grant’s side brushed aside Southampton with ease as they secured a 4-1 FA Cup win at St Mary’s on a historic day.
Before that, 1988 was the last time Pompey celebrated a victory away against Southampton, with Barry Horne and Terry on the scoresheet for Alan Ball’s side in a 2-0 win.
Premiership victories at Fratton Park in 2004 and 2005, however, mean Pompey fans still have plenty of recent memories to fall back on against that lot up the road.
As a result, we’ve also been looking through our digital picture archive which dates back to 2005 to see the scenes the supporters created as the Blues celebrated victory against Southampton.
Here’s hoping the celebrations we’ve uncovered can be replicated at St Mary’s on Sunday, October 11.
In the meantime, enjoy the images we’ve found from 2004, 2005 and 2010 and see if you can recognise anyone from the 35 provided.
