It was a must for those with football in their blood – even if the traffic along the M27 and then down towards the indoor football arena often made the few of us late for kick-off.
That might explain why games often had a bit of an edge to them at times! We all had road rage still in our systems! Or it simply might have been that desire to win alongside your mates that made matches ultra-competitive.
Whatever it was, you knew you were in for a battle whenever you stepped out onto the plastic pitches. You were also guaranteed a battle to keep the small bits of rubber infill from getting into the house if your headed straight back home afterwards! Oh, those were the days!
