So why should Pompey fans be any different as they hope Santa can help deliver an additional gift ahead of the January transfer window!
Despite Saturday’s 4-1 hammering of Coventry, the Blues still need reinforcing next month in order to give John Mousinho the best chance of guiding the Fratton Park side to Championship safety this season.
A new centre-back, additional quality in the centre of midfield and further depth out on the wings are among the head coach’s own Christmas wishlist.
But what players do the fans want to see wearing blue over the second half of the season?
We asked them, via Facebook, which ‘realistic’ targets they’d love to club to pursue in January? They didn’t hold back with their responses. And while some are a lot more realistic than others, there’s a good mix of names that would surely give Pompey a great chance of retaining their Championship status.
Here’s 16 names that cropped up when we asked the supporters to name their top target ahead of the window opening next week.

9. Marcus Harness - Ipswich on loan at Derby County
Another former Pompey player to be suggested, with the Blues in the market for additional numbers out wide. Harness made 134 appearances for Pompey prior to his switch to Ipswich in 2022, scoring 31 goals and registering 21 assists. The winger is currently on loan at Derby and has featured 17 times to date. A return to Fratton Park would be a complete surprise. | Getty Images

10. Adam Webster - Brighton & Hove Albion
With Pompey struggling with injuries in the centre of defence - and form - it's no surprise it's one of their priority positions in the January Transfer window. With that in mind, some members of the Fratton faithful are hoping the Blues can tempt academy product Adam Webster back to PO4. He's currently out with a hamstring injury, but has found himself on the fringes of the Seagulls first team when fit. Maybe a loan over the second half of the season with regular game time would appeal to the Chichester resident! | Getty Images

11. Conor Chaplin - Ipswich Town
The entire Fratton faithful will all be in agreement that the forward should not have been allowed to leave Fratton Park when he did. The Blues have, no doubt, regretted it ever since - hence why some here have him at the top of the Christmas wishlist. Regular minutes in the Premier League for Ipswich, though, means it's a Christmas wish that won't be coming true any time soon. | Getty Images

12. Yu Hirakawa - Machida Zelviaon loan at Bristol City
The Japan under-23 international clearly made a good impression on some members of the Fratton faithful during the Robins' recent defeat at Fratton Park. The forward has two goals and one assist so far during his maiden season in English football. | Getty Images
