Fifteen players were recruited as sporting director Rich Hughes and head coach John Mousinho looked to put together a squad worthy of their new Championship surroundings.
But while we wait for the new intake to jell and settle into their new Fratton Park home, we asked our followers on Facebook to name one former player who they would love to see in the current Pompey first team?
With a rich history of talented players to choose from, the names put forward were wide and varied. However, among the welcomed responses were a core group of former players who remain popular with the Fratton faithful - and individuals they would like to drop into the modern Blues ranks.
Here’s the top 16 responses after another overwhelming response from the Fratton faithful.

13. Lassana Diarra
The Frenchman graced Fratton Park for 12 months - a sufficient timescale to establish himself as one of the Blues’ greatest modern-day performers. Real Madrid’s January 2009 swoop remains a Pompey record sale, with Diarra fetching £20m. Photo: David Rogers
14. Teddy Sheringham
Newly-promoted to the Premier League under Harry Redknapp, Pompey pulled off a coup by tempting the three-time Manchester United title-winner and England striker to Fratton Park in June 2003 on a 12-month deal. Svetoslav Todorov fired Pompey into the Premier League with 26 goals during their 2002-03 promotion campaign. In total, the popular forward scored 33 times in 82 games. Photo: Mick Young

16. Mark Hateley
The striker's time at Fratton Park was brief, yet outstanding, and fans still remember those performances with a smile. With 22 goals in 38 appearances, many consider him among the finest strikers they have ever witnessed for the club. Photo: National World
