But with the Blues stuck in the Championship relegation zone with 12 points from their 15 games played to date, they might have no choice!
Recent performances and Saturday’s 3-1 defeat of fellow strugglers Preston North End might take the temperature down on the need for sweeping changes. But it won’t stop head coach John Mousinho and sporting director Rich Hughes heading into January wanting new additions to bolster Pompey’s chances of climbing out of the bottom three and to a position of safety.
We’ve reassuringly been told there’s money available to do so. However, with Pompey already having a squad that exceeds the 25-man league limit and there being a natural desire to improve what they’ve currenty got, there’s a real possibility that exits could be a key feature of the forthcoming transfer window.
Such departures would also provide an opportunity to free up extra cash - which is always helpful when clubs are faced with inflated prices in the new year. But who realsticaly could find themselves elsewhere come the end of January?
We’ve had a look through the current Pompey ranks and there’s potentially up to 10 players who could be involved in some of the Blues’ transfer dealings in the weeks ahead.

5. Will Norris
The Pompey keeper has lost his No1 spot to Nicolas Schmid and has been pushed down the pecking order after a below-par start to the season. John Mousinho has admitted neither Norris or Jordan Archer are happy playing second or third fiddle to the Austrian. But with Schmid showing he's more than capable of playing Championship football following his summer arrival, there's no clear route back for Norris at this moment in time. As a result, does he fight for his place or does he decide to seek a move in January where regular first-team football is guaranteed and he's automatic first choice? 6. Ben Stevenson
The midfielder is in the exact same position as Tom Lowery - out of the squad with little hope of being involved over the second half of the season. | National World
7. Toby Steward
The young keeper answered Pompey's goalkeeper SOS last month. He returned from his loan at Tonbridge Angels to help cover the absences of both Nicolas Schmid and Will Norris. The 19-year-old's Pompey situation hasn't changed - he remains highly thought of and is considered one for the future. Yet, he needs senior games to continue his development. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages

8. Abdoulaye Kamara
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder's current Pompey position is a strange one. He's a constant fixture in the Blues' match-day ranks - but someone who very rarely, if ever, gets any game time as he remains stuck on the bench. The 20-year-old has been among Pompey's substitutes 13 times this season - but only three have resulted in appearances from the bench. He's not featured at all since a 35-munute runout against Stoke, eight games ago. Owen Moxon now finds himself above him in the pecking order, so perhaps Pompey need to send him out on loan in order to get him much-needed experience at senior level. There's no point in him going stale on the bench! | National World
