On November 8, 1982, former Pompey player and manager Jimmy Dickinson died suddenly at the age of 57.
Dickinson made a record 822 appearances for the Blues, winning successive league championships in 1948-49 and 1949-50, and was capped 48 times for England. He famously never received a yellow card in his career, earning him the nickname ‘Gentleman Jim’.
