The legend of Ronan Curtis' mum grows as nation hears of her antics in England's win over Republic of Ireland

The Marie Curtis legend has reached new frontiers.

The antics of the mother of Pompey’s Ronan Curtis transcended a new audience last night, as she was namechecked on British mainstream television.

Curtis’ popular parent has gained a cult following on social media for her interactions with Pompey supporters on Twitter, along with the occasional faux pas or two.

ITV’s new lead commentator, Sam Matterface, who is known to Pompey fans from his time covering the Blues with 107.4 The Quay, still has his finger on the pulse of events at Fratton Park.

And he ensured the nation knew all about the comic work of Mrs Curtis, as he regaled them with the tale of her being banned by the Pompey winger last season, after she questioned Brett Pitman’s weight during the victory at Rochdale.

Matterface said after Curtis’ entered the fray: ‘Ronan Curtis plies his trade for Portsmouth in League One

‘It’s his fifth cap tonight and Ronan has a bit of a character for a mum.

‘She caused one or two problems on Twitter, and he had to ban her from the social media network for two weeks at one stage last season.

‘I think it was her assessment of Brett Pitman’s fitness which was her undoing.’

Never change, Marie. Never change...
