Cook: Pompey in a good position

PAUL Cook saluted a job done as Pompey opened up a gap in the top three.

Cook’s side are tonight six points clear of fourth-placed Stevenage, with seven games left, after the 2-1 win over Newport County.

The Blues looked comfortable after going two goals up, before Alex Samuel pulled a goal back with 14 minutes left.

That led to nervy finale but Pompey held on to get the win under their belt.

Cook said: ‘The dressing room is quite flat because we got nervy and edgy.

‘My message is after 46 games the table will say what has gone on.

‘You have your highs and lows, but we’re in a good position with seven games to go.

‘I’m sure there are a lot of teams who would swap places with us.

‘It’s about us, though. As our fans say with the song we have to find a way to get there - and we did that.’
