Cardiff City eye top Portsmouth target as Fabrizio Romano confirms imminent Leeds exit after £15m agreement reached
A former Portsmouth loanee is attracting interest from a Championship side
The start of the 2024/25 Championship season is getting closer and a number of clubs are working hard to get their teams as equipped as possible for the new campaign.

Portsmouth have so far added five players to their ranks but fans will be keen to see more reinforcements in the coming weeks as they prepare for a challenging start to the season against the likes of Leeds, Luton, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and West Brom.
Getting points on the board in the early weeks of the season is integral to each team’s chances of success and the lift that new signings can bring can often be the key to hitting the ground running. With that in mind ahead of the new season, Portsmouth News has taken a look at the main transfer headlines that are dominating the news agenda this week.
Cardiff City enter the race to sign former Portsmouth midfielder
Cardiff City are interested in making a move for Manchester City prospect Alex Robertson, according to local reports from WalesOnline.
The Bluebirds are targeting a play-off push this season after a steady 12th place finish last term, and have already added the likes of Chris Willock and Callum Chambers to their ranks so far. Robertson is a 21-year-old Australian international with bags of potential. He rose through the Manchester City ranks in 2020 after a brief spell at Manchester United and is tipped to be a star for years to come. The young midfielder was included in the Guardian’s ‘next generation’ list back in 2020 and described former club captain Fernandinho as his mentor at the Etihad.
Robertson is yet to play a Premier League game for the Citizens but earmarked his potential during a fruitful loan spell with Pompey last season. Overall he played a total of 23 games in League One and registered one goal and four assists to help John Mousinho’s side lift the league title. Portsmouth are also pushing to re-sign the midfielder this summer after a productive time at Fratton Park. Robertson has just one season remaining on his Manchester City contract and it remains to be seen whether he will be sold on a permanent this summer or loaned out once again.
‘Here we go’ - Fabrizio Romano confirms high-profile Leeds exit
Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has today revealed that Rasmus Kristensen is heading for a second loan spell away from Leeds United.
The Denmark international was expected in Leeds in the coming days, having been away at this summer’s European Championship, but speculation over his future began to intensify earlier in the week with Frankfurt showing interest.
Talks between Leeds and Frankfurt have since quickly progressed and the 27-year-old is due to travel to Germany later today to complete a medical ahead of a season long loan spell which is also reported to include a £15m option to buy.
The move will see Kristensen link up with a former Leeds United team-mate in Robin Koch, who agreed to join the Bundesliga giants on a free earlier this summer. The Whites have also allowed the likes of Marc Roca and Diego Llorente to move on a permanent basis this summer while Jack Harrison has agreed to join Everton on loan for the second season in a row.
