AFC Portchester sign striker Callum Laycock despite suspension of non-elite football

AFC Portchester's season might have been brought to a temporary halt but that has not stopped them bringing in striker Callum Laycock from AFC Stoneham.

The managerless Royals, who relieved Mick Catlin of his duties last month, have moved to bolster their already packed forward line.

It's a real statement of intent from the Wessex League Premier Division title hopefuls and interim manager Marty Wallace.

But Laycock will be waiting more than a month to make his maiden appearance with a four week lockdown, which came into force today, signalling the start of a suspension for non-elite football in England.

The forward arrives at the Crest Finance Stadium having made an impressive start to the season in front of goal, netting eight times in 15 appearances for AFC Stoneham.

That total is the same number as Portchester's leading scorer this season, summer signing Lee Wort.
