University of Portsmouth events: what’s on this Autumn

September is here, bringing with it the start of autumn, a new academic year and a packed calendar of events. Becky Miles from the University of Portsmouth takes a look at what’s coming up on campus this autumn - and why there’s something for everyone.
As summer draws to a close and students return to the city, there’s a renewed energy across the University. But you don’t have to be a student to be part of it.
Universities aren’t just places to study. They’re places to meet, discover, debate, collaborate and try something new. While the days might be getting shorter, our calendar of events is getting longer!
Throughout September, we’ll be hosting a wide variety of events bringing together businesses, researchers, students, professionals and communities from across Portsmouth and beyond.
Friday 11th September, 1.00-2.00pm In this public seminar we will discuss some of the ethical issues associated with working with people and communities, drawing distinctions between undertaking public involvement activities and research.
Thursday 17th September, 3.30-7.00pm If you think about the history and culture of Portsmouth, what comes to mind? Join us for a talk from three experts exploring the history of our city and where that has led us to now, as we journey through Portsmouth's 100 years as a city.
Tuesday 22nd September, 9.30-11.30am Many founders assume growth comes from spending more on marketing yet fail to see the results they expect. In doing so, they often overlook the critical role that awareness, understanding and trust play in driving commercial outcomes.
Wednesday 23rd September, 9.30-12.30pm Creating a space where learning leads to greater understanding, stronger partnerships and better support for Armed Forces-connected communities.
Friday 25th September, 10.30-11.30am Introducing the Lifelong Learning Entitlement and what it means for individuals and employers. We will explore how the shift to credit‑based flexible learning supports reskilling and upskilling, and how organisations can build pathways into their workforce development planning.

Something for everyone
