The Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is celebrating an outstanding summer of academic achievement, with pupils delivering exceptional results at both A Level and GCSE.
At A Level, pupils achieved the strongest ever A* grade performance in the school's history, with more than 27% of all grades awarded at A*, surpassing last year's record of 25%. Over 61% of grades were awarded at A* to A, representing the second-highest proportion of top grades achieved by PGS pupils since 1997.
The results also saw pupils secure places at some of the UK's leading universities. All Oxbridge applicants achieved the grades required to take up their places, while ten pupils will progress to study Medicine at institutions including Oxford, Nottingham, Imperial College London and King's College London.
My time at PGS has been so enriching. Thank you to the incredible people and staff, especially the Chemistry department.
Particularly strong performances were recorded across STEM subjects, with more than half of all grades in Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Computer Science awarded at A*. Creative and business subjects also flourished, with 66% of Art grades and 50% of Business Studies grades awarded at A*. These successes will see pupils progress to a wide range of courses including Artificial Intelligence, Aeronautical Engineering, Business, Fine Art, Architecture and Art History.

Talented pupils
Building on this success, pupils were celebrating once again a week later as they collected an impressive set of GCSE results. Success was achieved across a broad range of subjects, highlighting the depth of talent and ambition throughout the PGS community.
Among those celebrating was Eric, who achieved a straight set of grade 9s.
I'm super happy with my results. My time at PGS has been absolutely amazing and I really look forward to spending Sixth Form here.
Many pupils are already setting their sights on future careers in Medicine. Angela achieved nine grade 9s and a grade 8 and will continue her studies at PGS in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She also plans to participate in the school's Sixth Form Medical Support Programme, which helped prepare all ten of this year's successful Medicine applicants.
Creative subjects enjoyed similar success at GCSE, with grade 9 the most awarded grade in both Art and Drama, while half of all Music grades were awarded at grades 8 or 9. Languages also performed strongly, with half of all Latin grades and a quarter of French grades awarded at grade 9.

Commenting on the results, Mrs Vivienne Durham, Chair of Governors at The Portsmouth Grammar School, said: "These results reflect not only the academic ability of our pupils, but also their hard work, resilience, ambition and commitment to making the most of every opportunity available to them. I would also like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive parents, whose encouragement and expertise help young people fulfil their potential."
The outstanding results reinforce PGS's reputation for academic excellence, breadth of opportunity and exceptional outcomes, as pupils prepare for the next stage of their educational journeys and future careers.
