For one night only, one of Portsmouth’s most historic ships, HMS Warrior, will play host to Pickle Night—a lively annual naval tradition that honours the legendary HMS Pickle.
Imbuing the spirit of Trafalgar, the ship celebrates naval history and camaraderie, with fine, drinks, and entertainment.
Why Pickle Night?
The event pays homage to HMS Pickle's historic journey, when, as the fastest ship at Trafalgar, it raced back to Britain with news of victory—and the sombre loss of Admiral Nelson. This is the second time The National Museum of the Royal Navy has organised the event, and it’s fair to say last year it was a hit and a hoot!
What’s included
Entertainment: Your lively host will bring the Battle of Trafalgar to life with thrilling tales, sea shanties, and traditional naval banter. Audience participation is encouraged!
Traditional Dining: Experience life below deck as you dine at authentic mess tables, enjoying a hearty two-course meal of beef or veggie stew, followed by a classic sticky toffee pudding.
Drink Like a Sailor: Your meal includes a glass of IPA, wine, or a soft drink, along with a tot of rum for the traditional toast. Additional drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
Commemorative Toast: Raise a glass in honour of Pickle Night and take home a special keepsake glass as a treasured memento of your evening aboard HMS Warrior.
Event Photography: A professional photographer will be capturing unforgettable moments throughout the night, including fun group shots. You’ll have the option to purchase your group photo on the night, which will be emailed to you after the event.

Dress code
While it’s not formal, Pickle party-goers are invited to get into the spirit of things and dress like sailors of old – white trousers and a stripy top are perfect
