But our city has not been immune to the loss in pubs over the years with many loved and lost - and others closed with a question mark over their future.

37. Sir Robert Peel
This was built in 1967 as part of the Somers Town estate. In the 1990s it became a free house but closed in early 2004 after its licensees left for Spain. The pub was later demolished and a block of flats was built Photo: Michael Scaddan

38. The Swan
The Swan was at 100 Copnor Road, and closed in 2011. A planning application was submitted later in the year to demolish the pub and turn it into flats, which became a reality a couple of years later. Photo: JPIMedia

39. The Taswell Arms
This pub was in Taswell Road. Originally built as a hotel, it was open for more than a century and served its last pints in February 2012. It is now a private house Photo: JPIMedia

40. The Wheelbarrow
This 18th century inn in Kent Road, Southsea was one of the oldest in Portsmouth before it became a coffee shop in 2011. In 2013 it was turned into an Icelandic themed café bar but went back to being a coffee house in 2014, and is now Giuseppe's Italian restaurant Photo: JPIMedia
