Mike and the Mechanics: Portsmouth Guildhall date announced on nationwide 2027 tour

Veteran rockers Mike + The Mechanics are heading back on the road for a major UK tour in spring 2027 - and will be calling into Portsmouth.

Tickets go on sale this week for the Guildhall gig, which will be on Tuesday, June 8, 2027.

Originally formed in 1985 as a side project by Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford, the band has grown into a formidable live force over four decades, with songs such as The Living Years, All I Need Is A Miracle and Over My Shoulder.

Following a five-year hiatus, Rutherford resurrected the band in 2010 with a new line-up featuring Andrew Roachford, Tim Howar, Luke Juby, Anthony Drennan, and Gary Wallis. Since regrouping, this iteration has recorded three albums - two reaching the UK top 10 - and played 374 shows together. The addition of drummer Nic Collins in 2023 added fresh energy to the group’s live shows, earning high praise from critics, including a four-star review from The Telegraph for their Royal Albert Hall appearance.

Reflecting on the upcoming tour, founder Mike Rutherford said: "It occurred to me when we started talking about this tour that the core of this line-up is the longest standing we have had with The Mechanics! It is absolute testament to Roach, Tim, Luke, and Anthony that we are going back on the road again. Nic bringing a different energy has been a real cherry on the cake - 17 years have flown by, and I can’t wait to be doing this again."

The UK leg of the 'Back On Track Tour 2027' kicks off on May 8 in Harrogate, sees dates in Birmingham, Swansea, Bath, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool as well as Portsmouth, and also includes a show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. There is also a European leg,
