From croissants in bed to salmon en croûte and tiramisu, this is how consumer writer Gareth Butterfield planned a relaxed and decadent Valentine’s Day at home using Morrisons deals

Morrisons is offering More Card customers 10% off a selection of their “The Best” online groceries at the moment, so I've used it to set up a wish-list of ingredients I'd buy for the perfect Valentine's Day.

It's a day to celebrate affection, appreciation, mutual bonds, and shared passions. And this year it falls on a Saturday. So the day is going to start with a lie-in, and breakfast in bed.

And it just has to be Morrisons "The Best" All Butter Croissants. More Card holders will get these for just £2.16. I've got a bit of strawberry jam in the fridge, so that's a reasonably decadent breakfast sorted for just over a quid each.

There's a chance my wife might be unable to resist the urge to go out and do the local Parkrun, so I'm also going to lob a sugary post-run treat into my basket - this bar of handmade salted caramel fudge is £1.80 with my More Card, and you can't put a price on the number of brownie points I'll get when I surprise her with it.

For lunch, I'm going to serve up something really quite naughty - burgers. A pack of Brioche buns would cost me £1.30, and two steak burgers from Morrisons' "The Best" range would be £4.05.

Allow me to be controversial for a moment, but the perfect addition to a steak burger is blue cheese. It's non-negotiable. Morrisons is offering its gorgeous Stratford Blue for just £3, but I'd get it for £2.70.

I really don't think we'll be needing an afternoon snack on Valentine's Day, but I couldn't resist these dark chocolate and blood orange cookies - £3.15 with my More Card.

Dinner time can't come soon enough, and I've spotted the perfect quick and easy meal. Two Salmon En Croute parcels from Morrisons' The Best range is £7.75, and it comes down to about £6.97 with the 10% discount, so that's definitely going in the basket. I've got some tender-stem broccoli in the fridge, which will be a nice accompaniment, but we're going to need some wine, obviously.

And I don't even need to think about this because Morrisons has a lovely-looking Gavi on offer, which would cost me just over £11. I could even buy crystal wine glasses with my 10% discount, but I already have some, because the wife's a bit posh.

Finally, I need a dessert. And it's another easy choice. Amaretto Tiramisu is going to be incredible, and it's really cheap at £4.50 - £4.05 to me, thanks to my More card.

Netflix, chill, and an early night after all that, I reckon. And I can feel a food coma coming on, but it's well worth it.

Total spend? I make that £37.18. Morrisons is even offering free delivery for your first order, so it's an extremely cheap way to properly indulge yourself.

If we'd have gone out to eat, we'd have probably spent that much each. And we'd certainly have got funny looks if we were dining out in our joggers.
