For many families, Easter revision is a turning point – but is going it alone enough, or does structured support make the difference?

More than 26,000 students joined a single GCSE Biology revision session last Easter – a figure that points to a growing shift in how students are using the final weeks before exams.

For families with children in Years 11 and 13, the Easter break has traditionally been seen as a chance to rest, with revision fitted in around it. But there is an increasing sense that these two weeks can have an outsized impact on exam outcomes – particularly when used in a more structured way.

That raises a question many parents are now weighing up: is independent revision enough, or is some form of guided support becoming the norm? Platforms such as MyEdSpace’s Easter revision courses are one example of how that shift is playing out, offering scheduled lessons and a defined framework during the holiday period.

Many students will already be familiar with using resources such as BBC Bitesize, which offers accessible, curriculum-aligned content for independent study. Others turn to platforms like Cognito, which provide structured videos and quizzes that students can work through at their own pace. Both approaches can be useful for reinforcing knowledge, but they are largely self-directed.

By contrast, the appeal of programmes like the MyEdSpace course schedule lies in adding structure and accountability. Courses run from March 30 to April 12, covering core GCSE and A-level subjects including English, maths and science, with live lessons throughout the day and recordings available on demand.

A notable feature is the teaching approach. Many of the tutors are former examiners, meaning lessons are not just focused on content but also on how marks are awarded and where students typically lose them. For some families, that insight is part of the appeal of platforms like MyEdSpace, particularly at a point in the year when exam technique becomes more important.

There is also some evidence of impact. According to the company, students who took part last Easter achieved GCSE grades 7 to 9 at more than triple the national average, with strong outcomes in maths and science. At A-level, nearly three-quarters achieved a B or above. While results will vary between individuals, those figures help explain why structured revision options such as MyEdSpace’s online courses are attracting attention.

Cost is another factor in the discussion. With private tutoring often priced at £40 or more per hour, the courses start from £49 per subject, with options to bundle multiple subjects. There is also a free entry point, with GCSE students able to access their first 25 hours at no cost and A-level students offered an initial free lesson through MyEdSpace.

Alongside the paid courses, the platform is also running free revision weeks, offering guidance and support to students who may be unsure where to begin. This reflects a broader trend towards more accessible, online-led revision support in the lead-up to exams.

For parents considering how best to use the Easter break, the key issue may not be whether revision happens, but how it is structured. Increasingly, the question is whether a more guided approach – such as that offered by MyEdSpace’s Easter revision courses – could make that time more effective.

By the time exams begin, the difference may come down not just to how much revision has been done, but how well it has been directed.
