With one of the UK's most significant solar eclipses in decades just days away, shoppers can pick up a 12-pack of ISO-certified viewing glasses for less than £8.
With one of the most impressive solar events visible from the UK in decades just around the corner, shoppers can now buy a pack of certified solar eclipse glasses for under £8.
Amazon has reduced the price of the 12-pack of Galaxium Solar Eclipse Glasses from £13.95 to £7.95 for a limited time, cutting the cost by 43%. At the current price, each pair works out at around 66p, making the pack an affordable option for families, friends or groups planning to watch the event together.
The offer comes ahead of the partial solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. During the event, the Moon is expected to cover around 90% of the Sun across much of the UK and Ireland, making it the closest the British Isles have come to witnessing a total solar eclipse since 1999.
In London, the eclipse is forecast to begin at around 6.17pm before reaching its maximum at approximately 7.12pm. Viewing conditions and the percentage of the Sun obscured will vary depending on location, with parts of south-west England expected to experience some of the deepest coverage.
The Galaxium Solar Eclipse Glasses are advertised as meeting the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for direct solar viewing. According to the manufacturer, the lenses block harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation as well as 99.999% of intense visible light.
Using certified eclipse glasses is essential when observing the Sun. Ordinary sunglasses, no matter how dark their lenses appear, do not provide sufficient protection. NASA advises anyone viewing a solar eclipse to use ISO 12312-2 compliant viewers and to inspect them carefully before every use, discarding any that are scratched, torn or otherwise damaged.
The glasses have an average customer rating of 4.3 out of five stars from more than 4,600 Amazon reviews. Each pair is individually wrapped, while the lightweight cardboard frames are designed to fit both adults and children, although children should always be supervised during use.
Other multipacks are also available, including packs of six, 25, 50 and 100 pairs. However, at the current promotional prices, the 12-pack offers the lowest advertised cost per pair. Amazon is also offering multibuy discounts on selected qualifying purchases, although eligibility should be confirmed at checkout.
As with any eclipse viewer, shoppers should check the manufacturer's instructions and certification before use. Prices and availability may also change as the August 12 eclipse approaches.
