It is no secret that the past few years have been difficult for retail shops both big and small. Last year alone, saw a number of shops close, including national chains such as Poundland who closed a number of stores in the region including its North End branch.
It has not been all doom and gloom though with a number of new shops opening in 2025, a list of which can be found here. Here is hoping that will continue in the new year and there are several retail units currently on the market for businesses looking to open in Portsmouth in 2026.
