An 8ft tall tripod on which two loudspeaker horns were mounted was apparently blown over by the wind at the service organised by the Royal British Legion Riders Branch.

It fell straight onto a woman who was one of hundreds of people showing their respect at the service.

Onlookers rushed to help her as she was knocked to the ground.

The service continued as she was given first aid and comfort before paramedics arrived to treat her.

Organisers said it was not immediately clear what had happened and that the accident would be investigated.

Hundreds of veterans and supporters on motorbike and scooters rode in convoy to the service this morning.
