Weather warning issued with heavy downpours of rain and flooding expected across Hampshire

Heavy downpours of rain could lead to some flooding the Met Office has warned after it issued a yellow weather warning.

The warning covers the period from 9am to 10pm tomorrow (January 15) with heavy rain falling on saturated ground across much of the South and South East - including Hampshire - which the Met Office said may lead to some surface water flooding.

The warning said: “An area of low pressure will migrate northeastwards across England on Thursday. Whilst the exact track is uncertain, rain will become persistent and heavy through the day, before clearing to the north through the evening and night.

“Accumulations of 20-30 mm are expected fairly widely, in some places falling in just a few hours, with the potential for 40-50 mm in a few isolated spots. Given the saturated ground, this may lead to some surface water flooding.”

It warned:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

People have been advised to check public transport timetables, be careful if driving and amend any travel plans if necessary.
