Storm Ciara: Chance of 'wet snow' and sleet in Portsmouth as gusts could peak at 30mph today

PEOPLE living in the highest areas of north Portsmouth may wake up to see ‘wet snow’ on grass and windscreens today, a meteorologist has said.

John Griffiths, a senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office, said the conditions could affect those living at the city’s ‘highest ground’.

Showers may also continue to fall in Portsmouth at around midday, with temperatures forecast to peak at about seven degrees.

Mr Griffiths warned gales could make it feel colder than this because of winds which could reach 30mph.

It comes after Storm Ciara brought weather chaos to the city over the weekend.

The storm claimed the life of a 58-year-old man after a tree fell on to his car on a Hampshire road.
