Portsmouth weather: Met Office forecasts 60mph wind gusts for Portsmouth this weekend

Gusts of up to 60mph could hit the south coast this weekend after the Met Office issued another weather warning.

A yellow-level warning, which means severely bad weather is possible, will be in place for the whole of the UK between Saturday at 12am and 11.59pm on Sunday.

Strong winds are forecast across the weekend which could lead to travel disruption and flooding in some areas.

Large waves are expected along the south coast – including in Portsmouth – which would lead to spray on seafront roads.

Speaking about the national forecast, a Met Office spokesperson said: ‘Very strong winds are likely across much of the UK later Saturday and through Sunday.

‘Gusts of 50 to 60mph are likely across many inland areas, with gusts 70, possibly 80mph around some exposed coasts and hills, especially in the north and west.

‘Heavy rain will be an additional hazard, especially over western hills. Winds of this strength across a wide area have the potential to produce disruption to transport, along with some coastal impacts, especially in the west.’

Seafront roads in Portsmouth, Gosport and Fareham had to be closed last month after Storm Brendan brought strong gusts to the area.
