Met Office issues hot weather warning for Hampshire
WITH the south coast forecast to experience the hottest day of the year, the Met Office has issued a level 2 hot weather warning for Hampshire.
The warning, which has been issued for today (June 24) until Friday, forecasts a 60 per cent chance that parts of the region could exceed the threshold temperatures of 30C by day and 15C by night for at least two consecutive days.
The current warning is in place from 9am today until 9pm on Friday. Temperatures in Portsmouth are currently expected to peak this afternoon at 28C but the Met Office is predicting other parts of the south could hit a whopping 33C.
Following the warning, Hampshire County Council’s executive member for public health, Judith Grajewski, has warned people to take care.

Cllr Grajewski said: ‘Planning ahead for hot weather is vital, particularly for those groups of people for whom the heat poses possible health risks. These include babies and young children, the elderly and those with chronic or long-term conditions.
‘It’s good to prepare wherever possible, by for example shopping ahead for food and medicines and looking out for others, especially if they are shielding or self-isolating.’
With parks and public spaces expected to busier than normal, the council have also reminded people to follow the rules on social distancing.
