Portsmouth weather: Live updates as rain batters the region with weather warning in place
Heavy rain is set to batter the region today with a weather warning in place.
The Met Office yellow weather warning is in place from 9am until 10pm today (January 15) with surface water flooding possible in some places. Traffic has already been impacted this morning with delays on all routes into Portsmouth and on the M27 towards Southampton.
The warning states: “Outbreaks of rain will spread northeastwards during Thursday, becoming persistent and heavy at times, before clearing to the northeast through the evening and night.
“Accumulations of 20-30mm are expected fairly widely, in some places falling in just a few hours, with the potential for 40-50mm in a few isolated spots, this most likely across parts of southern England. Given the saturated ground, this may lead to some surface water flooding.
“Rain will also be accompanied by strengthening winds through the afternoon and evening, particularly across southern and southeast England where gusts around 50mph may be possible along some exposed coasts.”
People have been advised to check public transport timetables, be careful if driving and amend any travel plans if necessary.
