Heavy rain and 55mph gales forecast for Portsmouth - here's when they're due
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for rain and wind for part of the UK later this week.
Rain showers are expected overnight on Thursday across the south of the country and these will turn heavier and more persistent on Friday morning, combining with a strengthening east to north easterly wind.
A yellow weather warning – meaning disruption is possible – will be in force from 3am to 8pm on Friday. It covers Portsmouth as well as the rest of Hampshire.
Forecasters say some places could have 40-50mm of rain in just 12 to 18 hours, mostly likely on the south coast.

This could combine with gusts of up to 55mph inland which could cause disruption during the Friday morning rush hour.
A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘The combination of wind and rain, combined with trees losing their leaves, increases the risk of flooding due to blocked drains and watercourses.
‘The wind and rain will ease from the south later on Friday, as the weather system responsible starts to move away.’
In Portsmouth more heavy rain is forecast throughout Saturday but showers will turn lighter on Sunday and Monday.
