Hampshire weather: 'Arctic dome' to bring freezing cold temperatures to Portsmouth and rest of county, Met Office warns

People are being warned that today is set to be the last of the warm sunshine before an ‘arctic dome’ causes temperatures to plunge.

The 2,000 mile weather front is set to arrive from Scandinavia in the UK tomorrow and will bring colder temperatures as well as possibility of snow and ice in some areas.

It is expect to last until Easter.

The Mirror reports that a Met Office forecaster said: ‘Temperatures will potentially turn much colder than average in the South from Thursday, where showers could be wintry.

‘Temperatures are also expected to be at or slightly-below average later in March and at the turn of the month.’

Currently the Met Office is forecasting that temperatures will get as low as 2C in Portsmouth on Friday but the conditions will be mostly cloudy.

Gosport, Havant and Fareham will also see lows of 2C this week, while it will get as cold as 1C in Waterlooville.

In Hook temperatures could drop to 0C later in the week.
