Portsmouth weather: Weather warning issued for heavy rain in the city and Hampshire with flooding possible
A new weather warning has been issued by the Met Office warning of more heavy rain across Hampshire which could lead to some flooding and disruption to transport.
Widespread rain is forecast across Hampshire, including Portsmouth, during Thursday evening (September 26) and into Friday morning, prompting the warning where some locations could see up 20-30 mm of rain in two to three hours and, it said, perhaps 40-60 mm in four to six hours.
“Given the recent very wet weather, this will bring the potential for further flooding and transport disruption,” the Met Office said.

The news follows some localised flooding earlier this week with the drainage network unable to cope with the large and sudden volumes of rain.
The warning says:
- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
People are advised to check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit, and give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
