"Dense" fog to cover Portsmouth and much of south east England as Met Office issue warning
Thick fog is forecast to cover Portsmouth and much of the surrounding area - with a weather warning being issued.
The Met Office has launched a yellow alert for fog this morning (December 17). It was initially issued at midnight and will be in place until 10am.
The alert also covers Havant, Fareham, Waterlooville, and much of Gosport. “Fog patches will affect parts of central and southeast England,” the Met Office said.
“Some areas will not see fog, but where it does form it may be dense in places with visibility below 100 metres, leading to difficult travel conditions. Fog will slowly clear from the west after dawn but may linger until mid morning in the east of the warning area.”
The forecaster said delays on public transport, including buses and trains, are to be expected due to the fog. Cancellations to flights at affected airports may also occur. The Met Office has issued advice on how to deal with the fog if it occurs.
They added: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary. Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey.
“Bus and train services, as well as flights may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company and follow their advice.”
