Cold snap brings snow flurries to Portsmouth region

It might not be making a very good job of it, but snow is falling in the region today.

The Met Office has released a severe weather warning for areas including the south east of England but the Portsmouth region and West Sussex should remain largely unaffected.

Today there have been reports of small flurries in Swanmore, Gosport, Watelooville and Cosham.

‘Had a few flurries (that you could hardly see) two hours ago in Paulsgrove,’ said Louise Trigwell on The News Facebook page.

‘A little bigger now, but still not amounting to much.’

Jeannette Kiany said: ‘Light snow in Widley but has increased over the last hour.’

Jo Lace said: ‘Is this all were going to get or are we expecting more? My sons at the window shouting ‘we want snow’.’

The Met Office has issued warnings for snow in East Sussex and Kent saying outbreaks could bring local accumulations of 2-3 centimeters.

‘An organised area of sleet and snow is feeding into parts of southeast England and East Anglia.

‘This is likely to continue for much of the morning though this will increasingly turn to rain.

Some small accumulations are possible across the warning area however, many parts will see little or no cover, and and where it does settle it is likely to melt through Saturday.’
