'Soul destroying' vandalism devastates volunteers after rubbing trail plaques at Southsea Rock Gardens damaged

“Soul destroying” vandalism has left volunteers disheartened after nine information plaques at a popular garden were ripped out of the ground.

Volunteers part of the Friends of Southsea Rock Gardens group are ‘devastated’ after nine rubbing trail plaques at the garden were yanked out of place and dumped near the pond.

As a result of the senseless vandalism, the boards have been removed from the site and are due to be repaired before being set in place using cement.

Sandra Thurston, a volunteer at the Friends of Southsea Rock Gardens group, said: “It is just so mindless, we are all pretty much devastated by it because it took us a good year to everything organised because it’s not just a matter of putting them there. To have them ripped up is just soul destroying.

“If we don’t repair the damage the water will get into the wood and it will be ruined so we have to get fixed which will be something to do after Christmas.”
