Travellers leave Portchester play park after four-day camp as rubbish left piled up near bins
Neighbours were avoiding the park while travellers encircled it.
Travellers who had surrounding a children’s play park have been moved on by authorities.
Last weekend, more than a dozen caravans pitched up in Dore Avenue, Portchester, setting up camp around the play area in High View Park. While The News did not receive any reports of incidents between travellers and residents, neighbours said they were avoiding the park while the travellers were encircling it.

This morning (Wednesday, July 29), the park is once again clear, after notice was served for the travellers to move on. A copy of the notice has been attached to a lamppost on the outskirts of the park.
Groups of travellers have been spotted throughout south Hampshire this summer, setting up in the likes of Waterlooville, Fareham and Swanmore.

In some cases, vast amounts of waste has been fly-tipped in the midst of their departures - but in Portchester, this does not appear to have been the case. Instead, rubbish bags have been left in piles next to the public bins.
The News has contacted Fareham Borough Council to establish if council officers have cleaned the site, or if the rubbish had been bagged up by the travellers themselves.
