Trackside fire at Havant sees line blocked and some train services cancelled

A fire next to the railway track in Havant blocked the line – but disruption has now eased.

The fire, which is thought to have started in a cable, affected Southern Rail and South Western Railway services.

A statement from Southern put on Twitter earlier this afternoon said: ‘To allow emergency workers access to the track, the electrical supply to the track is being switched off temporarily.

‘This will mean that trains will be unable to run from Havant towards Portsmouth Harbour & Southampton Central.’

But at 5.40pm Southern said that services were back to normal.

Network Rail and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have been called out. Havant firefighters said it was a small fire, where the bridge wires connected to the third – live – rail.
