Road reopens after unexploded bomb washes up on the beach in Southsea
AN unexploded bomb has been detonated after washing up on a beach in Southsea.
The video above shows the moment when the Royal Navy’s bomb disposal crew detonated the device earlier this afternoon.
The incident prompted a heavy response from emergency services and caused Eastney Esplanade to be shut in both directions.
The road was closed between Canoe Lake and St George’s Road, Portsmouth City Council has said.

Pompey Police tweeted: ‘You may be aware of a large presence near to the Rose Gardens in Southsea.
‘There is nothing worry about, we have an unexploded device that has washed up and will soon be securely detonated. If you hear a large bang please do not worry!’
Pictures and video from the scene show a police cordon was in place and a number of officers were at the scene.
