M275 closure: Reminder to drivers as motorway out of Portsmouth to be closed this weekend
Drivers advised to allow extra time for their journeys
Disruption is expected on roads in Portsmouth this weekend with a major route out of the city closed for essential bridge maintenance.
Traffic leaving Portsmouth via the M275 during the closure will be diverted via the Tipner Interchange roundabout with “essential maintenance” being carried out on the bridge. There will also be traffic management measures in place on Hope Street, Mile End Road and the M275 and on both Church St / Mile End Rd and Rudmore roundabouts to help manage traffic flow around the affected area.

Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said: “Carrying out work on the M275 northbound is not something we do lightly, but this is essential work to keep one of the city’s most important routes safe and reliable.
“We’re doing this work over a weekend to help minimise disruption, and clearly signed diversion routes will be in place throughout. The work forms part of a wider preventative programme designed to keep Portsmouth’s roads well-maintained and triple green rated by the government and to ensure the network resilient for the future."
The council have advised that trains, buses, Voi e‑scooters and e‑bikes, taxis and private hire vehicles are all available, and the Park & Ride service will remain open, with access managed via signed routes.
Bus services could be affected by the closure and the council advise passengers to check with operators before travelling.
