Heavy traffic in Portsmouth as McDonald's reopens drive-thru restaurants
HEAVY traffic is being reported after McDonald’s announced that it would be reopening its drive-thru restaurant in the Pompey Centre.
The fast food giant is opening hundreds of its sites across the country today, including a number in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.
Google Maps shows that there is very slow traffic on Goldsmith Avenue in both directions near the entrance to the Pompey Centre, which is where the Fratton McDonald’s is located.
The fast food restaurant has been shut since late March, when the company announced it was shutting all its sites before the UK went into lockdown.

There will be a number of safety measures in place for people going to McDonald’s drive-thru restaurants.
In a post on social media, the company wrote: ‘In order to allow for social distancing, we will have fewer employees in our kitchen and service areas.
‘To help our smaller teams, we will be offering a limited menu over reduced hours (11am to 10pm).
‘We continue to ask that you limit your spend to £25 and use contactless payment methods wherever possible.
‘Our teams are adjusting to new safety and hygiene procedures, which will help them to work safely and social distance, we appreciate your continued patience.
‘We are delighted to be returning to communities across the UK and Ireland, but it will look different and take a little longer. Please bear with us.’
The remaining drive-thru restaurants will reopen tomorrow, McDonald’s has said.
