Council to 'consider' changes after boy, 9, hit by car outside Purbrook school
A REVIEW will be carried out to see if road safety measures are needed where a nine-year-old boy was hit by a car.
Hampshire County Council has been called into action after the pupil was hit by a car outside Mill Hill Primary School in Mill Road, Purbrook, on Thursday morning.
He suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries to a leg.
Parents and people living nearby have said traffic calming measures should be put in place.

Now the deputy leader of Hampshire County Council, Cllr Rob Humby, has said this could be on the cards.
He said: ‘I am sorry to hear of this incident and hope the young person involved recovers quickly.
‘Safety comes first, and we prioritise our resources where there is evidence that installing measures will bring about improvements, while taking into consideration numbers of pedestrians, traffic volumes and suitability of sites.

‘We regularly analyse injury accident data to determine what interventions could be introduced to reduce the number of people injured on our roads.
‘We will be asking the police for details of this incident and, together, with a study of the injury accident record for this area, will consider if any interventions could be put in place that would reduce casualties and improve road safety.’
In the wake of the crash, residents and parents alike have made their concerns known.

One parent, who spoke to The News on the day of the incident, said: ‘Just yesterday I had a close call with a Mini that was going too fast down this road – something has to be done.
‘Drivers simply go too fast down here and have absolutely no respect for the schoolchildren coming in and out.
‘A zebra crossing would make a huge difference, but the bottom line is that drivers just need to be more careful and more patient when using the road.’
It’s understood the boy was dropped off and was crossing the road when he was hit.
Police are looking into the crash that happened at 8.55am. No action has been taken against the driver.
