Motorists were brought to a standstill on the M27 late last night, after police closed off the motorway.
Drivers have told The News that yesterday evening (Saturday, August 15), they were being turned away by officers on the M27, at the westbound slip road between North Harbour and Junction 11. Those who contacted us voiced their concerns about what had potentially happened.

Now, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed the nature of the incident.
A spokesperson for the police force said: “We were called at around 10:55pm last night to reports of a concern for welfare for a teenage girl on the Hill Road bridge over the M27 at Portchester.
“Officers attended and a road closure was put in place to deal with the incident. She has been taken into appropriate care.”
To report an incident to police, residents can call 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
