When will the A3 reopen after lane closed due to 'uneven road service'? National Highways shares update

One lane on the A3 was closed earlier today due to an “uneven road surface”.

Motorists are continuing to deal with delays on the A3 this afternoon, after one lane was closed due to the heatwave.

In the early hours of this morning, National Highways announced that lane one had been shut on the A3 northbound, between the A3(M) near Horndean, and the B2070 near Weston. The agency cited an “uneven road surface”, which they confirmed was related to extreme weather conditions.

The lane is still closed at the time of publication, and National Highways has confirmed that motorists will have to wait a while longer before it will reopen.

A spokesperson told The News that an engineer has already attended the scene, and work will be carried out tonight to try and get the lane into a serivceable condition. Full repairs will be made once the heatwave is over, and temperatures have cooled.

Transport bosses have urged people to avoid travelling if possible, and are warning those that do to “prepare for a disrupted journey”. Meanwhile, the AA said its overall workload was up 6% above planned levels on Tuesday, “reflecting increased demand”.
