Two fires are impacting train services
Investigations are ongoing and delays are expected as fires at two seperate Hampshire railways are being dealt with.
South Western Railway are advising customers of delays, cancellations and revised services today (July 7) following fires next to New Milton railway station and the track between Overton and Whitchurch.

The train operator wrote on X, saying: “A fire next to the track between Overton and Whitchurch Hants. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem. At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 2pm. All lines are blocked and your journey is likely to take longer.”
A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to an electrical substation near the New Milton railway line shortly after 6.30am following reports of smoke issuing from the site.
“As a precaution, train services in the area were suspended while crews investigated the incident. Firefighters did not need to carry out any firefighting operations; however, ventilation fans were deployed to clear smoke from the premises. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this incident was dealt with.”
In a recent update, SWR said: “We have received an update and disruption to our services is now expected until end of the day. As the investigations are ongoing this may change but we will update you if it does.”
