Train delays: Portsmouth to London routes faces cancellations and delays again as familiar 'problem' hits line

Commuters are running into problems

Familiar problems are causing delays and cancellations on the railway this morning.

Jaded passengers travelling from Portsmouth to London are once again running being disrupted due to signalling faults today (October 29). South Western Railway said the “signalling problem” is affecting the route between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo, the most common route the Portsmouth trains pass through to get to the station.

Commuters are expected to be hit with issues on the railway all morning. “Due to a signalling problem between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo some lines are disrupted,” the company said. “Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

“Engineers are on site investigating and working towards rectifying the fault. We will provide more information when it is available. Services to and from Portsmouth Harbour, Weymouth, Exeter St Davids , Alton and Basingstoke may experience delays and alterations arriving and departing London Waterloo as we work around the affected area .

“If you need any help with your journey, please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point. We are very sorry for any disruption to your journey.”

Engineers were trying to fix a fault overnight but were unable to do so. The company added on X: “Unfortunately repair work was not able to be completed overnight as another faulty signal was discovered during post-repair tests.

“At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at the end of the day. Some lines are disrupted and your journey is likely to take longer. We will let you know if this changes or when we have more information.”
