Disruption as Portsbridge roundabout in Portsmouth to close for up to 10 nights for essential maintenance
One of the city’s busiest routes to undergo maintenance
A major route into Portsmouth will be closed for 10 nights as essential maintenance begins.
The Portsbridge roundabout will undergo resurfacing from Monday, June 1, Portsmouth City Council have confirmed. The work is expected to take up to 10 nights to complete with contractor Colas undertaking the activity that will see the roundabout closed to traffic.
The closures will take place in phases with work ongoing between 9pm and 5am from Sunday/Monday night to Thursday night to try to reduce disruption.

Councillor Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said: "Portsbridge roundabout is a key route into and out of the city. It’s important we maintain it before its condition deteriorates.
This all part of our long term, preventative approach to maintaining the city's road network, that was recently recognised and rewarded by the government's only triple green rating for road maintenance on the South Coast.
"We know this essential work will cause some disruption but carrying it out overnight helps keep Portsmouth moving during the day and reduces the impact on residents, businesses and emergency services."
During the closure, diversion routes will be clearly signposted and the council has advised of the following disruption:
- Some local routes, including access arrangements for nearby residential roads, will temporarily close overnight.
- Some bus services will be diverted and some local bus stops will be temporarily closed overnight. Passengers may experience delays and are asked to check with their operator and plan ahead before travelling.
As well as the road closure, Portsmouth City Council are advising residents may experience some noise, particularly during the early stages when the existing road surface is removed.
A Portsmouth City Council spokesperson said: “The Council thanks residents, businesses and road users for their patience while this essential maintenance is completed.”
