A27 closures: New dates for disruptive weekend closures after initial dates clashed with major events
New closure dates announced
Changes have been made to the dates of major closures on the A27 to help keep motorists moving - including post-football traffic.
National Highways has changed some of the dates of its planned closure over the Langstone Interchange bridge at Havant to carry out safety work. This is because they initially clashed with Pompey’s home match against Cardiff, as well as the Southampton boat show which are expected to generate extra traffic on the busy road.
But now two of the closures will begin 24 hours later on the Saturday evening rather than the Friday nights.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “There are a number of weekend events taking place in the Portsmouth and Chichester area during September, so we’ve amended our programme of weekend closures to make sure congestion is kept to a minimum.
“We've been able to delay the start time of our initial weekend closures to 9pm on Saturday evenings.
“This should significantly reduce the impact on the Portsmouth FC home fixture on 5 September and the final day of the Southampton Boat Show on 26 September.”
The new closure dates and times are as follows.
- 9pm on Saturday 5 September to 6am on Monday 7 September.
- 9pm on Friday 11 September to 6aam on Monday 14 September.
- 9pm on Saturday 26 September to 6am on Monday 28 September.
- 9pm on Friday 9 October to 6am on Monday 12 October.
Diversion routes will vary depending on the phase of works during each closure.
As previously reported by The News, lane closures have been in place in the area between Havant and Emsworth for some time while the works are being carried out - with 50mph speed reductions currently in place.
National Highways has said that motorists can also expect other disruption while it carries out other works in the area.
Drainage investigation and light vegetation clearance work is taking take place at A27 Wade Lane tonight (Monday, August 17) and tomorrow evening (August 18) from 9pm to 6am. This will require a full closure of the A27 eastbound between Langstone Roundabout and the A259 Havant Road.

Overnight road marking works are taking place on the A27 westbound between Langstone and Broadmarsh which means that one further night of closure is needed at Harts Farm, on Saturday, August 22 from 8pm to 6am.
The Langstone interchange itself will be open that night, with traffic diverted via:
