M3 traffic: 'urgent safety critical closure' at junction 9 after a vehicle crashes into safety barrier
M3 closed after safety barrier damaged
A stretch of the M3 will be closed overnight for “urgent” repair works after a safety barrier was damaged in a crash this morning.
The closure will take place between junction 8 and 9 southbound overnight on Thursday, July 16 in what National Highways has described as an “urgent safety critical closure”.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “A vehicle struck the safety barrier at junction 9 this morning closing a lane - we need to complete urgent replacement of this barrier. We expect the closure tonight to take a few hours, but please be mindful it may be longer.”

Drivers have been advised to switch off their satnav and follow the signed diversion.
The emergency closure coincides with a planned closure for the junction 9 improvement works. The M3 northbound between junctions 10 and 9 will close overnight from 8pm to 6am from tonight until July 30 (excluding weekends) for carriageway management.
There will then be further night closures closures from July 20 until July 25 with sections of the M3 junction 9 roundabout, between A34 northbound and southbound (8pm to 6am), closing for traffic management layout changes.
The southbound carriageway will once again be closed overnight (8pm to 6am) between junction 8 and 9 on July 30 for Temporary Vehicle Restraint removal.
