To allow the work to be “completed safely”, National Highways will be carrying out the work with daytime lane closures and overnight closures on the motorway between Portsmouth and Fareham - junctions 12 and 11.

During the day on Saturday and Sunday, two lanes will be running in each direction, and the speed limit will be reduced to 50mph.

The motorway will also be closed to traffic altogether in both directions from 9pm Friday until 6am Saturday and from 9pm Sunday to 6am Monday. Lane closures and a 50mph limit will also be in place overnight on Saturday.

Anup Shrestha, National Highways Service Delivery Manager, said: “A robust central reservation barrier is a crucial safety feature on motorways. We need these closures to work safely and to allow time for the concrete to cure.

“We plan our work carefully to minimise disruption and we are carrying out the majority of this maintenance at night when traffic is at its lightest.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for their patience and remind those planning on passing through this section of the M27 – or using one of our diversion routes – to allow extra time to complete their journeys.”

A signed diversion route will take drivers onto the A27 between the Portsbridge and Delme roundabouts, before rejoining the motorway.

Drivers travelling to or from Surrey over the weekend are especially urged to plan ahead, with the barrier work coinciding with a full weekend closure of the M25 between junctions 10 and 11.

The repairs are separate to work taking place in relation to the M27 J10 improvement scheme being delivered by Hampshire County Council.
